Survival of the Finest!!

I got a question from a friend yesterday, one that sparked a rather interesting debate. She asked if men liked a “damsel in distress”, or a woman who’s in need of some emotional comfort and reassurance. I told her sure we do, depending on how cute the damsel is. Of course she couldn’t believe my response, and I’m sure some of you don’t either, but it’s the truth.

See, we as men love to provide that shoulder for you to cry on, to be that person offering you comfort and understanding…especially if you look like Bria Myles or Sanaa Lathan.

It’s like this: no man wastes his time on a woman he doesn’t find attractive. He’s not going to really care what an unattractive woman is going through and he doesn’t want to hear her problems. Please understand that men are visual creatures, so what a woman looks like is very important when it comes to whether a man will give a woman his time and energy.

Does this mean that a pretty woman’s problems are more important? Absolutely not. But because of how men are programmed, if we think that a woman is fine, or even just cute, she will get our attention very quickly.

That sounds awfully shallow, doesn’t it? Well, yeah, it is. But truth be told, we’re all shallow, both men and women. I mean ladies, who would you rather have holding you and telling you it’ll be all better: Boris Kodjoe or Al Roker?

  1. shallow lil creatures indeed. fortunately women can see beyond the looks. why do you think good looking men are usually single – bc their attitudes and behaviors make them ugly. hence why “ugly” men get the “hot” women!

  2. …ahhhh…..so good to know that my questions inspire you. I realllly like Boris, but Al Roker is cool too. They both bring something to the table…at least for me. It’s true what “jnf” said in his comment about women seeing beyond the physical. As far “ugly” men getting hot women. It depends on the person’s definition of “ugly”. There are some so called “ugly” men who treat hot women like crap, which usually means that hot woman has deeply rooted esteem issues and allows herself to be treated in a negative way…but that’s a whole another topic in itself. Luv ya!

  3. I agree wholeheartedly. It’s messed up..yet true. ALthough, I think some men would listen to an ugly woman’s issues or save her too. But please note, that today’s woman is just as visual. Not before long before the “you gotta look good” shoe is on the other foot.

  4. Fee, in many ways the shoe is already on the other foot. Many women like for a man to look good too, but I think the difference is that what a woman looks at is a bit different.

I know quite a few women who don’t mind a little belly on a man, as long as he keeps himself well-groomed and neat.

You know, a sharp haircut can make magic happen.

  5. JNF, great point about attitudes…lots of “pretty boys” have had their heads gased up by women and act like they are God’s gift to the world. They get too full of themselves.
